Substance Abuse: 775-825-HELP

Nevada Grows

Young individuals have the power to effect change by engaging in conversations and educating their peers on substance abuse prevention. This involves dispelling myths and presenting facts about drugs, learning how to reject drugs and alcohol, and recognizing the signs of substance abuse. High school students are urged to seek participation in the Nevada Grows program as peer educators. Those selected will undergo training from prevention experts and will be tasked with delivering this crucial information to fellow students throughout the academic year.

What prevention means to me is showing the younger generation by being a good example not to use at such a young age with alcohol and drugs. Having a younger sister and hearing children who are younger or my sister’s age already having the habit of vaping and drinking scares me for her. Not wanting her to follow down that path, I want to at least try to show kids why it’s wrong. Just knowing I could prevent a child from using or prevent my sister from getting her hands on drugs makes my worries go away for the time being. We are preventing them from drinking and smoking by going to their schools and listing the cons and wrong doings that could occur to your body, telling them about mental health, and scenarios by showing slideshows and answering questions.

I decided to Join Nevada Grows because I wanted to make an impact on the future of our world, and this is exactly what Nevada Grows does! I heard that Nevada Grows goes around to schools and teach kids about drug abuse. I’ve seen drug abuse in my family, and I don’t want the kids of our future to fall into the same trap. So, I took the opportunity, and it was the best decision I’ve made. Not only am I making an impact but along the way, I’ve gotten myself exposed to new career ideas, made friends and memories that I will cherish forever.

The reason I decided to join Nevada Grows was because of the opportunities this program provided. I heard that there were opportunities such as college letters. And I heard about the amazing leaders running this program. Not only are the people apart of this program amazing, but the program itself is a program that will help direct the future for children. There are many children who don’t know about substances and the dangers of them. It’s important to me that I can help change that. I truly enjoy this program and I’m super fortunate to be a part of an amazing program, being able to interact with unique children every week and learn something about them.

The reason why I joined JTNN is because it was a learning and growing opportunity. I like what I do with JTNN and I like to teach kids about prevention. I have always liked kids and being able to do something I enjoy while working with them is great. Another part of this that I like is that it feels like we are a family. You can always rely on each other, and they always have your back. I have so much love for everyone I work with. JTNN specializes in prevention, especially to kids that are more exposed to it at a young age and what I like about that is that I can help kids and people make better choices and make them better people.

The reason I decided to join Nevada Grows is because it’s a program that makes a change. I’ve been trying to be more proactive by helping improve and be a part of the community and this seemed like the perfect opportunity. I believe that education on a topic is the best method of prevention and that’s what this program does. Through this opportunity I want to help make a change and help brighten the future of the kids by helping them learn the dangers of substance abuse.

I joined the Nevada Grows program because we educate the impressionable kids of our future the impact drugs can have during growth. I plan to major in Neurology and go into the medical field as a neurosurgeon. Drug abuse from a young age can cause drastic neurological changes in an individual's life. Therefore, it is crucial for the youth of our generation to know how drugs can impact their futures. Our brains adapt to the introduction of drugs to in a way replace the role of certain neurotransmitters.

I joined Nevada Grows because as someone who has had friends who have struggled with addiction I wanted to help the community by talking about drug awareness, keeping the community alert and safe, and help others who are suffering from addiction. I have tons of volunteering experience with children even more now since I joined Nevada Grows. Some ones I have done before Nevada Grows is that I have done volunteered throughout elementary and middle schools and I run a club where I mentor Freshmen and prepare them for the next year. This is important to me because I believe substance addiction and misuse is serious. From statistics, I have learned that there is a high rating of people who die from overdoses each year and getting them the resources and the help that they need is important to me because I do not want anybody to go through some a difficult time.
